Importance of Clinical Trials in Osteosarcoma Treatment

There hasn’t been a Phase 3 osteosarcoma (OS) trial in 20 years. If your child has been diagnosed with this type of aggressive solid tumor, ask your oncologist about clinical trials for which your child may be eligible. The other key to taking our children’s lives back from this cancer is expanding the tumor and tissue samples available for testing. Ask your oncologist whether any of your child’s tumor can be submitted to the Children’s Oncology’s Group’s Project Every Child. While it is the largest pediatric biospecimen bank in the nation, OS samples are woefully lacking, which impedes the progress to be made in discovering new, effective, less toxic treatments for this cancer.
